What puff-sleeves were to the 1980s, cutouts are to the 2020s, it seems. And now, celebrities are delivering a new twist to the edgy trend.

From those who follow Bella Hadid‘s early noughties approach to styling to fans of Kim Kardashian‘s statement-making edginess, all ends of the style spectrum cater to 2021’s new fashion fellow: Pelvic cutouts.

The style has seen a recent surge in the world of street style, with the aforementioned celebrities wearing it with an unmistakable blend of effortlessness and chic. Enough to sell us on it, that’s for sure.

We have Kim Kardashian wearing the trend in full, red-carpet-ready style: A white lace off-shoulder dress featuring a conjoining pelvic cut out below two midriff-bearing cuts on a recent trip to the Vatican City.

And then there was Katie Holmes, who stepped out on a hot July day in Manhattan wearing a cream skirt featuring an elevated waistband with cutout detailing. A simple black crop finished the look.

And the model who is single-handedly campaigning for the return of the low-rise, midriff-baring jean (more on that here), Bella Hadid has of course already tried, tested and nailed the pelvic cutout trend.

Whether you’re convinced or not, pelvic cutouts look like they’ll be trending for a while longer.
