For the second time, Canadian jewellery designer Jenny Bird has teamed up with Far + Wide Collective, an online social enterprise platform that connects shoppers with artisans working in emerging economies. For this year’s project, Bird envisioned a pin—a design artisans in many different countries could make. All of the artisans who are part of the Pin Project are refugees, and this initiative gives people living in displaced communities an opportunity to make an income. The design is modelled after a kite, something that Bird says is ” inspired by one father’s commitment to keeping joy alive by making kites for the children in his refugee community.” The project kicked off on Kickstarter (where it has already exceeded its funding goal), and now you can buy a pin for yourself (or someone on your Christmas shopping list) here
