Prince Harry is writing a memoir about his unique, extraordinary and eventful life, he has confirmed.

The Duke of Sussex will release his autobiography next year, according to a statement published on the website of Archewell – the non-profit organisation he founded with his wife, Meghan Markle, last year.

The “definitive” memoir will be the first time Prince Harry has written extensively about his life so far and will detail his childhood, the losses he experienced – most notably, his mother Princess Diana in a tragic accident in 1997 – growing up in front of the public eye, his time in the armed forces serving in Afghanistan, meeting his wife Meghan and becoming a father to Archie and Lili.

The book will no doubt also include the father-of-two’s version of events regarding the couple’s decision to step back as senior working members of the royal family and become financially independent from the monarchy in 2020.

“I’m writing this not as the prince I was born but as the man I have become,” the Duke of Sussex explained in the release.

“I’ve worn many hats over the years, both literally and figuratively, and my hope is that in telling my story—the highs and lows, the mistakes, the lessons learned—I can help show that no matter where we come from, we have more in common than we think.”

“I’m deeply grateful for the opportunity to share what I’ve learned over the course of my life so far and excited for people to read a firsthand account of my life that’s accurate and wholly truthful.”

Prince Harry has also confirmed that he will donate proceeds from his memoir to charity. The book will be published with Penguin Random House and is set for release in the latter half of 2022.

Since making the decision to stop working as senior royals, Prince Harry has spoken candidly about formerly extremely private areas of his life in interviews, such as in the highly-publicised sit-down interview with Oprah Winfrey and on the mental health docu-series he produced with the TV personality. According to the BBC, Prince Harry did speak privately with his family about his intention to write a book.

The Duke of Sussex’s latest venture comes days after Meghan announced that she was set to executive produce a new feminist animated series telling the stories of famous women from history as part of the Sussexes deal with streaming giant Netflix.
