When the beauty oracles of TikTok declare the arrival of a new beauty trend or hack, one must listen and learn. The latest? Turns out, the social media platform has discovered an innovative way to elevate your lashes, and all that’s required is your favourite mascara.

Not only have Generation Z used the app to transform our wardrobes, but now, it seems like the beauty sphere is getting a little dose of TikTok love. Alongside their obsession with Pink Cosmetic Co.’s cult-favourite eyelash curler, it looks as if they have found another way to ensure sky-high lashes after you’ve put down the eyelash curler.

For many of us who don a low lash line, it can be tricky to keep lashes upright—yes, even after squeezing them into position—which is why it’s time to look at the products we swipe onto our lashes for a solution. And thanks to TikTok user, @makeupbylxna, a method called “Zick Zacking” is all you need for lashes that reach the heavens.

In most makeup routines, it involves a few simple swipes through the lashes, delicately remove any product that’s hit the eyelid and voila. But the “Zick Zacking” method is here to show us how coating the entirety of each singular lash actually ensures a higher lift.

All it takes is gentling pulling the eyelid skin taut, toward your hair line, and then hold your mascara wand vertically and zig-zag (or “zick zack”) the brush across your lashes to coat the tips and sides of each hair. Once done, simply sweep your wand back through like usual and almost immediately, fluttering and lifted lashes are achieved.

Of course, one person’s experience may not be the same for the rest of us, that was until the rest of the TikTok community tested the technique and attested to its success.

From alternating between the “zick zack” and traditional application to @suzi_sina‘s take on side-to-side sweeping, showing her dramatically boosting her lashes by incorporating a side-to-side step has since brought in over 75,000 likes.

And the most thrilling part is that no extra items are necessary to master the technique. Clearly, it looks as if applying mascara the entirety of each lash is the only way to go for a full flutter. And in the end, your lashes will thank you for it.
