When I think of Pinterest, I think of wedding mood boards in soft colours and collages of French girl hair. When I think of Alexander Wang — the brand, the models, the show — I just think: cool. So I was surprised when Rita Remark, Essie’s global nail artist told me that Topless & Barefoot, the polish the always-edgy-looking Wang models were wearing this season, is currently the most popular (i.e. most pinned) shade on the website. “It’s the quintessential skin-tone flattering nude,” Remark said backstage of the soft beige pink.

Two layers of the polish were applied, followed by the ultra-glossy Speed Setter Top Coat. “The nails look pretty [as opposed to cool or grunge-y], which is the first time I’ve been able to say that working with Wang over the last three seasons,” she says. “There is this really undeniably clean, feminine finish to them.”

The models own nail shapes were left as they were. “This is a chameleon colour,” says Remark, noting the colour looks good on all nail lengths — short, long, what have you. “I want to keep some personality in the nails.”
