It’s Friday night and you’re rushing from work to play. Maybe you used Photobooth as a mirror while sitting at your desk and then applied your lipstick during a bumpy cab ride… no judgement here, we’ve all been there. That’s why we went to the experts for advice on how to fix some of the most common (and always frustrating) beauty fails that crop up on the go (smudged eye makeup, anyone?). Sara Whittaker, Clinique’s Director of Education, and makeup expert David Allan Jones have the scoop on how to nix shine, enhance your eyes with eye makeup in a flash, make your lips pop and get a fresh glow. Buckle up!

Beauty fix #1: When transitioning from day to night makeup, how do you quickly enhance your look?

Sara Whittaker: "There are 3 simple things that you can do:

1) Amp up your eyes by adding a deep shade of liner in ebony or intense plum. Extend the liner just past the outer edges of your eyes, and then add additional volumizing mascara for lift and drama.
2) Accent your bone structure with a sweep of bronzer under the cheekbones and along the temples.
3) Let your lips talk with a deep, rich shade of plum or red layered over your daytime shade."

David Allan Jones: "If you want to change your day look to an elegant smoky eye for a special night out without carting your whole makeup kit out to work with you, all you need is a black pencil liner, a cream eye shadow (Chanel has some great options) in any color that suits your wardrobe, and a portable lip brush.

Before you leave the house, fill the brush with black shadow and put it in your purse. Quick and easy smoky eye makeup starts with a cream eye shadow applied to your lid with your ring finger, from the lash line to the crease. Using the black pencil, line your upper and lower lash lines; then use your finger to smudge the black into the cream shadow. Now pull out your lip brush with the black eye shadow, and use it to blend and set the pencil."

Balmain-clp-M-RS13-4465350500edi.gifBeauty fix #2: What is a great way to quickly fix shiny skin?

SW: The quickest way to nix shine is with a quick touch up of powder. Powder gives a nice matte finish and is available in oil-absorbing formulas such as Clinique Stay Matte Oil-Free Pressed Powder.

Beauty fix #3: What’s a quick way to get a fresh glow?

SW: The best way to ensure that your skin is glowing and healthy-looking is to follow a quick and easy custom-fit skin care program that cleanses, exfoliates and moisturizes. This can be accomplished in as little as 3 minutes, and the benefits are both immediate and long-term. Makeup only looks as good as the skin underneath it.

When it comes to makeup, a sheer liquid illuminator is a must-have accessory. Applied sparingly to the bridge of your nose, cheekbones and temples, it creates a radiant, bronzed glow, leaving skin looking brighter, glowing and perfected. No glitter, shimmer or glimmer; simply a healthy just-from-the-beach flush. It’s like traveling with your own professional lighting crew!

Beauty fix #4:
Over the course of the day your cover-up has started to look caked-on/chalky – how do you get back that fresh glow?

DAJ: This is very easy. Fix this issue with just a small drop of light moisturizer warmed up in your hands. Press your hands into your face where your makeup is looking dry. Still looking dry? Do it again until your makeup looks revived. Used too much? Blot with a tissue and re-apply concealer where you need it.

Beauty fix #5: How do you fix smudgy eye makeup on the run?

SW: Nothing says beauty mishap like the look of "raccoon" eyes! You can clean it up quickly with a cotton swab that has a little touch of eye makeup remover or eye cream. Try to avoid this problem by using stay-put formulas that are created to ensure that colour stays in place. Bottom Lash Mascara is thermal-activated, so it keeps the mascara on the lashes and does not rub off on skin. And aim for a long-wear, stay-put eye pencil that eliminates the need for cleanup.

DAJ:
Using a makeup wet wipe you can fix this mess even in the back of a cab! Just wrap a corner around your pointer finger and with surgical precision you’ll clean away your mascara and messy eye makeup. Tap a little concealer back under your eyes and retouch your mascara, then you’re good to go!
